Is ‘closing’ really the Holy Grail of selling?

Here’s a nice example (sent in by a newsell practitioner) of oldsell mutton dressed-up as spring lamb …

Closing is without question the holy grail of selling. Pen on paper! The autograph! The signature! The John Hancock! It can be called many things and it has many shapes, colors, sizes and flavors. What differentiates a good sales person to a Sales master is unequivocally the ability to close deals. What defines a 60K to a 500K a year sales person is the ability to close deals!”

To some salespeople and their managers, it all sounds good. Just like the lottery! The only problem is it doesn’t work. Just like the lottery! And, most important of all, customers around the world have been rejecting this approach for the last 30 years.
